I am leaving tomorrow(I did early arrival) and I was wondering what we need to bring? Will we have roommates?

They’ve probably mentioned this in an email already, but yes you will have a roommate (the person who arrives just before/after you, same gender). In addition to the wallet/ID stuff, bring clothes, shower stuff (don’t forget the flip flops) and a tentative class schedule.

I know this is off topic, what how many classes is recommended for the first semester? I hear 3 or 4, is that correct?

4 full classes is a good number, but if you’re taking multiple lab/programming/project courses then 3 might be better for your first semester.

Also, where can I book a shuttle from the Oakland airport to Berkeley? Sorry for all the questions by the way.

you can get on the airbart tram and that’ll take you to the coliseum BART station. Then you can take the Richmond BART train all the way to Downtown Berkeley.

Is it hard to find those two? I mean, will I have to take a long walk to the airbart tram form Oakland airport then another long walk from the coliseum to Richmond BART? Or is it a pretty obvious/easy destination to find? Do I need to make reservations?

it’s pretty obvious. at OAK, there’s an area where you wait for shuttles for different things like hotels or car rental or BART. So you just wait on the isle and get on the shuttle and it’ll take you straight to the station. Then you’ll have you pay for a BART card which is probably about 3 bucks for a one way ride to Berkeley, I’m not too sure. Then just hop on to the Richmond train and ride it all the way until Downtown Berkeley.

You’ll be fine, everything’s usually clearly labeled and the driver on the train announces each stop so you can’t miss it.

Okay sounds good, Im getting so nervous and excited traveling on my own for the first time.

[AirBART from OAK airport to Coliseum BART is $3.00 exact change (or a $3.00 BART ticket).

AC Transit](Airport Connections (SFO & OAK) | bart.gov) 73 also goes from OAK airport to Coliseum BART and is $2.00 exact change.

BART between Coliseum and Downtown Berkeley is $2.35 each way ($4.70 for a round trip ticket). BART ticket machines do give change, in coins only, although there may be some special machines that will change $20 or $10 notes to $5 notes.

Summary:

From OAK: Find the bus / shuttle area. If an AC Transit 73 arrives, board and pay $2.00 exact change. If an AirBART arrives, board and pay $3.00 exact change. Get off at Coliseum BART. Buy a $4.70 (round trip) BART ticket. Enter the station with the ticket and board a Richmond train. Get off at Downtown Berkeley and exit the station (the exit gate will deduct $2.35 from the ticket, leaving you $2.35 for the return trip). You will be one block west of the UC Berkeley campus.

Return trip: Enter the Downtown Berkeley station with your $2.35 BART ticket. Board a Fremont train. Get off at Coliseum and exit the station (the exit gate will keep the $0.00 ticket). If an AC Transit 73 arrives, ask the driver if it is going to the airport before boarding and paying $2.00 exact change so that you don’t take it going away from the airport. If an AirBART arrives, board it and pay $3.00 exact change. Get off at the airport.

^ The post above suggests buying a $4.70 round trip BART ticket at one go; I personally think it’s easier to buy $2.35 tickets twice (there is no discount for buying round trip) so the ticket doesn’t get lost/damaged/whatever over the two days in between.

Also there’s no need to be nervous, everything is clearly marked and there are information counters at the airport/BART station, so you will be fine (:
