What to bring to college far from home?

I'm leaving for a college 2000 miles away from home in the Fall. I'm flying there and I have no idea what to bring and how to bring it to college.
I'm considering just mailing my stuff to the school and getting it from there. but what should I do about big things like TV, fridge or chairs, etc. (I'm rooming solo).

What did you buy for your dorm room? what was absolutely essential, and what wasn't essential?

For the fridge: If your school partners with Collegiate Concepts, you can rent a microfridge from them. The company would deliver it to your school in the fall and pick it up in the spring.

For the rest of it: Buy stuff there, and look up storage options at your dorm/in your college town. Bed, Bath, and Body Works has a program where you can order all the stuff you need for college that’s at your hometown BBB and you can pick it up at one near your college town.

Just wanted to clarify, it’s Bed Bath and Beyond  They frequently have coupons out, so you may be able to get some good deals easily!

Yeah, that’s what I meant. I don’t have the Bed, Bath, and Beyond in my town, but I have the other, so I goof that up a lot. :)

Don’t buy anything furniture-wise at school that you can’t bring on the plane home. I learned that the hard way.

Although the BBB program is great, I would want to make sure that the fabric of my bedding is what I wanted and washing them before hand would be advisable. Sometimes if you buy darker colors they tend to bleed at first. I would buy them and them ship them. But other things such as the desk lamp and and decor I would have them ship it directly.

If I were you, I would only bring things I couldn’t live with for a few days with me on the plan. E.g. clothes, a set of sheets, a blanket, toiletries, and such. The rest I would have shipped to my school.
