What to bring to the dorms..

As the date approaches, I have more lost on what to bring to the dorms.
There is only so much I can pack!

What are you guys bringing? What have you guys found to be helpful in the past?
I'm thinking about bringing a printer - is it necessary?

Any tips are appreciated!

Hey

I’m transferring to Emory. I’m leaving from New York by plane so I am limited to luggage space, however the most important things you can bring are your electronics; laptop, hardrives, shaver (If you’re a male), good calculator, etc.
Having the correct electronics can make your life so much easier in college.
In my case I’m also bringing two monitors because having more than one monitor is tremendously helpful when writing lab reports, essays, etc.

Of course bring some necessities to get you started off like a toothbrush, comb, etc.
You can then buy all of the necessities once you get settles in.
As for the printer, I will advise you bring it. In my old college, everybody printed at school and you will not believe how many people got Fs simply because the college printers didn’t work. Having your own printer will save you a lot of trouble.

I believe there are websites to help you determine what you need to bring such as this one:
[Dorm Room Checklist | What To Bring To College & How To Pack](http://www.dormsmart.com/Dorm-Room-Checklist.html)

Does anyone know if the dormroom has one or two cable tv connections?

We are shipping stuff and flying to Atlanta with a few suitcases. Will buy printer and tv and cables, and plastic drawers for closet or under the bed storage somewhere near Emory.

I’d go with the approach of buying in Atlanta - or ordering online for delivery to Emory or to be picked up in Atlanta.

The Edgewood Shopping District (on Moreland between I-20 and Emory) has most of the big box retailers.

And ask the move-in crew to help raise your bed up high enough to get storage under it.

Can two Tvs be in use at the same time in a dorm room ( either with two separate cable jacks or using a splitter)?

Will we need ethernet cords or is the wifi good?

Nocrackup - the housing website says that the dorms are wifi and you have to pay an extra fee monthly for a hard line connection.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the space underneath the freshman beds. I will wondering what size of containers fit under neath the beds?

Also are the beds lofted some, or can you bring risers?

Another important question - do they dorms have hand trucks or dollys to help with move in? We are shipping some large boxes and I have no clue how we will get them from the storage pods to the dorm rooms.

Is it true you cannot really use extension cords?

@seiclan, there will be many helpers there to help you move in your stuff. I lived on the highest floor of my building and only had to make 1 trip to get all my stuff upstairs. I think 7-8 students helped me.

@collegeismygoal,
I don’t know what you mean by extension cords, but if your talking about a simple power extension cord cable, I’m pretty sure there is no rule on that. Even if there is, it probably wasn’t enforced and I knew many people with power extension cords.
If your taking about the Ethernet cables, you have to pay an extra monthly fee for it, Emory transitioned to an all wifi in dorms or smth last year.
