I think we need a thread on what to bring to UCONN (unless it's already been started elsewhere). Sure it's a good idea to bring what the school requires (which I will list below) but what additional items are needed that you might not have thought of?

Shool says:

Two sets of linen (Residence Halls & Mansfield Apartments extra long twin sheets 80" x 36")

Bathrobe
School Supplies
Sewing Kit
Storage Containers, which may fit under the bed
Television, VCR, and/or DVD Player

Alarm Clock
Umbrella
Towels & Washcloths
Laundry Basket/Bag
Stationary
Munchies
Computer (along w/original software)
Small stereo
Only pets allowed are fish (no larger than a 30 gallon tank)
Trash Can
Backpack

Laundry Detergent (please keep in mind, some machines are front loading and need "front loading" detergent)

Stackable Crates
Plants

Posters or decorations

List of Acceptable Appliances

UL Approved popcorn poppers
Small microwave
UL Approved coffee maker
Mini-Refrigerator (UL approved, equipped with a 3 prong rounded plug, no more than 36" in height - 1 per room)

Each room is already furnished with a study desk, chair, small dresser, bed and mattress.
If you are sharing a room with one or more students, you may wish to check with them to coordinate the larger items like a television, VCR, DVD player, refrigerator and microwave.
Each room/student receives local telephone service (you are billed separately for long distance charges), direct connection to the Internet, voice mail, HuskyVision and the ResLife Movie Channel.

School Supplies - bring all of these, the coop overcharges
Sewing Kit - um, i dont think it would ever be used
Storage Containers, which may fit under the bed - these are a savior

Dustbuster

Wet-dry erase board for leaving notes to your roommate
Get a rug the coop is overpriced for these too.
Dictionary and thesaurus are useless thats what the internet is for

A few more things that came to mind...

Mugs..... for hot chocolate later on in the semester
Silverware.... unless you plan on stealing it from the dining halls lol
Nalgene bottle
iPod.... UConn has a large campus.... its nice to listen to music while walking
Digital camera...... capture your first year and post the pics on facebook!
Cough medicine / cough drops...... just in case... if you dont use them, your friends will be so glad that you came prepared!

Nalgene bottle? What?

Its a water bottle..... made from really sturdy plastic

When I visited colleges, people were telling me how they could not live without one of these. They supposedly are really hard to break, I dropped one from the third story and it did not break. LOL. :):)

Where can i find one?

you can get them at sporting good stores and stuff, the co-op also has uconn ones...

I think Nalgene is some registered version of polycarbonate, which is used in bulletproof glass and shooting glasses.
