What to bring....

Granted what to bring is in the Logging In book but is there any other things you should bring besides the materials mentioned in the book e.i. an American flag.

My son took a state flag, everybody hung their state flags outside their doors. But I don't remember if he took it to Indoc or got it the first time he came home--I remember him getting it from our State Representative's office but can't remember exactly when. I don't think he ever took an American flag.

there are plenty of flags around here already....no need to bring anymore. bring some duct tape and maybe some baby powder.

what do you need baby powder for? and duct tape?

no need for state flags or American flags, it doen't really matter. I agree, bring duct tape for making your bed and baby powder for when you chafe. Also bring twice a many socks as they tell you to bring and if it is somehow possible, buy some extra PT shirts and shorts before you come from the ships store.

when they issue you your things make sure you check the sizes. i ended up with a two shirts, 1 medium and one 2XL

is there anything that is good to bring after acceptance day?

A medium USMMA09? LOL Whatja do, shine your shoes with it? Musta been a blind guy handing out the t-shirts. ggspin, i dunno know about the other guys, but I sent my kid a box right before parents week-end so that we didn't have to travel with the stuff. I sent the mp3 player, the cell, some computer stuff & "FOOD". I don't recall that he wanted anything else except more "FOOD". I don't think they starve you up there too badly its just that my kid must eat a dozen times a day or his head will fall off.

can I have a mp3 player after acceptance day??

Yeah. He asked for it, I sent it & there was no problem that I ever knew about.

Oh yeah... and for Indoc, know about 5 good oldies songs. Especially know "You've Lost that Loving Feeling," because everyone else will know it from watching Top Gun the night before. Other good songs include "Build Me Up Buttercup" and "Margaritaville." As a DI this year, I want to have lots of fun...

lol.. I hope that "I want to have lots of fun"... doesnt means that you are going to treat us too bad =p

...no... of course not...

USMMA2009 and k314sig09, bringing extra T-shirts and boxers was suggested. How should undershirts, undershorts, running shoes, etc. be marked? Where on the t-shirts, neck or bottom hem? Where on boxers? Where on shoes? How much of name? Last and initials? As to extra pair of running shoes, any specifications or some typical brand and style? Any specifications for the dimensions of a window fan or some typical make and model?

you will mark up your clothes during Indoc, its a bit of resting time. And I have no idea about a fan, just get a normal looking one and save the window fan for later

it depends what company you are assigned too. if you are in 3rd or 4th co, then it will be air conditioned and you wont need a fan. if you are in band, 1st or 2nd, then it will be hot as hell. if you can, bring a big floor fan. as for running shoes, you will be issued a pair and it will be the only shoes authorized to wear. i dont think you need extra boxers or t-shirts; the 14 they tell you to bring should be enough

I believe fans can be purchased at the school store....if you end up in a company without air conditioning.

On I day last year, I noticed several fans with "sold" tickets and the name of the candidate attached to them in the school store. I guess their parents bought them when they found out what company their child was assigned. I do not know who delivered them to the barracks.

"if you end up in a company without air conditioning."... that is only for indoc??

nope... those companies do not have air conditioning the entire year.

"if you end up in a company without air conditioning."... that is only for indoc??

im not exactly sure what you are asking, but the company you are assigned to during indoc will be your company for your entire stay at the academy. and with air conditioning, if the company has it, you get it. they dont turn it off just to make you suffer
