What to do about deferral?

I'm not as disappointed as I was afraid I was going to be, but still, ugh. Anyway, what percentage of deferrals end up getting accepted anyway? What can I do to improve my chances besides improving my grades? Can I resubmit an essay? I literally did mine at the last minute and it was so bad that I was sure I would be outright rejected when I sent it in. Also, do they accept jan sat?

Kierke,
I am sorry about the deferral.

Keep your head up. One of my daughter's good friends was deferred ED got accepted RD, and is a happy 08.

If you hava any additional information to give to the admissions committee, send it Updated SAT scores, awards, Mid year grades, even a new essay if it will help them to gain more insight into you. Keep plugging away letting them know that Dartmouth is still your first choice.

Yeah, show them its still a priority. Step it up in anyway you can and talk to them, keep showing your interest.

Kierke,

I just remembered that you were the one who also got the interview 9 days from now. take the interview, ask interesting questions make sure they know that you are really interested in Dartmouth.

alll the best

Any one know %s on average of deffered being admitted??

hey, i wrote an essay as one of my optional essays...its much more fun, and its less serious than my common app essay...the common app essay shows the type of person i am and how ive grown yada yada...anyway, this one uses an anecdote from high school and talks about my character as a friend...would this help my chances...im RD, and i sent my app in already, but i was just wondering...oh keirke, i emailed the admissions office, and they said they did accept january sat's...

I feel your pain, kierke... I was deferred as well. The weirdest thing is that I knew it was going to happen. It's family history for the path to be forever murky. Personally, I'm going to rewrite my essay, and get a higher act score. I'm also going to apply to Yale, Stanford, UCal at Berkley, Waterloo, Guelph, SFU, McGill, and Queen's. I'm confident that my act score was the reason I wasn't admitted (no sat), so I'll get a higher score, then hopefully run around the fire for a second year in a row.

Where else are you applying? What are you going to do?

Oh boy, I just had a look at my school's stats from last year for Dartmouth ED: 5 accepted, 7 deferred, 3 rejected. Then RD round, 22 accepted, 9 waitlisted, 50 rejected. And nobody that got deferred ended up getting admitted. Not one, nada, zip, zero. Every single deferree got rejected come April x_x

wow...how big is your class again?...oh, and hypoxia, what was your ACT again?

holy s***. Almost 90 people applied to Dartmouth from your school? That's insane. Truly, it boggles my mind.

yea it is...only one other person besides myself is applying (unfortunately, she knows people on the admissions board, and her dad went to dartmouth med school) *80 ppl in my class btw
