What to do about empty periods?

Hey! I just got my schedule for this coming year, but I have a few empty periods. (I need to take a class, but might be able to self study during this time..)

Classes I'll be taking (Junior year):
Wind Ensemble
AP Calc AB
AP Lang & Comp
AP Macro
AP Gov
Chem
German 4

I'll probably need to drop half a year of band so that I can finish up Chem. This gives me 3 empty periods (one first sem, two second sem). Most classes are filled and we are short on teachers, so I doubt I'll find an opening in an actual class. Right now, I think I'll apply to places like MIT, Caltech, WUSTL, College of William and Mary, etc. Would it be better for me to take a pointless art elective, or be a student aide for a math teacher? Art could ruin my GPA (no joke) and student aiding is pass/fail. If I'm able to self study, what subject?

Thanks so much!

how will art ruin your gpa?

I would just keep the offperiods. As long as you have a challenging schedule, which you do, it’ll be fine. I’m gonna use my three free periods wisely… 1 for eating, 1 for socializing and 1 for studying=]

cs: I can’t draw/sculpt to save my life. Those are the only two offered that block. It’s very possible that I would end up with an A-/B+ in that class. Haha

frangela: Thanks! :)

At my school, the average class load is 5.3 or 5.4 classes, but we have 8 periods a day. We get kids into the Ivies and other top schools. not a big deal. Do what you like/interested in.
