What to do after acceptance?

Ok so I received my acceptance the other day and it says to sign up for an orientation day and to place a deposit of like $250 (if I remember correctly) and to make an MSU email account... I am still waiting to here back from some other schools and I haven't received scholarship info yet from MSU so I definitely don't want to do anything permanent yet.... So will making the email, signing up for the orientation and depositing the $ lock me into MSU? It said to do all of that stuff within 4 weeks of getting accepted... but I'm not sure what it means when I do that.

If you submit the deposit you will have a place saved at MSU but you do not technically HAVE to go there. It is not binding for them, it just ensures that you will have a spot reserved in the freshman class.

When did you apply? How did you hear back so early?

Congrats! My daughter is waiting to hear from MSU also. When did you apply? How did you hear? Did your account chanfpge? Email? Snail mail? You can sign up for orientation and email with no penalty. The deposit, I believe is non refundable. You should have some time before that is due.

If you are waiting for other acceptances, there is no point in paying the deposit or do anything else at this time. Your place is already saved (by them offering you admission) until May 1st, paying your deposit this soon would not be any advantage - on the other hand you might actually lose it if you choose to go somewhere else. Some advantages of putting in your deposit sooner than later are that you might get your choice of dates of orientation, dorm allocation etc.

My youngest daughter was just accepted at MSU and we will be sending the deposit in even though she’s not 100% sure because she is eager to get the best choice of dorms (and there is a huge difference among the dorms in my opinion). Three years ago our oldest applied to MSU as a back up and decided not to go. We had submitted the deposit and were very quickly refunded once she let them know her intentions.

And congrats (BTW, regarding notification…an MSU admissions counselor was at her HS recently, which explains the early notification).
