So I was accepted into my top choice, and I was wondering what do I need to do now at my current university. Do I need to speak with anyone to let them know that I will be transferring and not returning? I also have financial aid and housing. Should I contact their offices?
Also, i have not told my friends that I am transferring. Any advice on what to tell my them and my professors? I’m transferring to a rival school.
First off, congratulations on your acceptance! You should look up your current university’s policy on withdrawing from the university; they may have you meet with someone or they may just state that you don’t sign up for classes next semester. I would speak with financial aid office and let them know that you plan to withdraw from the university.
In regards to the advice, you actually don’t have to tell your professors (unless they wrote you a letter of recommendation, then it’s cordial to let them know of your decision). As for your friends, just explain that you’ve decided to transfer; if they’re really your friends, it shouldn’t matter. I’m still friends with the people that I met at the school I attended before I transferred. Best of luck!
