What to Do After I've Committed

I have pretty much already decided which school I want to attend. They mail out their decision letters for EA in early December, so I haven't been accepted yet, but I'm sure I will be.

When/if I'm accepted, I know for 100% certain it is the school I will be attending. I've already applied 9 other places. If I commit to this school in December right after I'm accepted, I won't even be looking at any of the other schools I've been accepted to. Nor will I be paying to fill out the CSS PROFILE for them.

Is it polite to tell these others schools that I've already made my decision so they don't waste time/money putting together a financial aid packet for me?

Once you are absolutely 100% certain of where you will be attending (be positive it is your top choice, you are accepted, and the finances work) then you should contact the other schools to let them know that you will not be attending. If a school hasn’t given you an admissions decision you can even ask them to withdraw your application. Hope things work out the way you want!

Thanks!

Is there a reason you’d waste the application fee for nine other schools when you knew you’d have a decision by early December for your #1 school? Why not wait until you had a decision in hand before sending those in? Just curious, I’m sure you had a good reason, I just can’t think of it.

It’s polite to tell them you are not attending. But most people do not tell the other schools that they are attending another school, so it is not rude to not tell them.

That is, unless they actually point blank ask you to tell them if you are not accepting, then you should tell them. I would not tell them WHERE you are going, even if they ask though, none of their business.

It is confusing that you say “I am sure I will be accepted” and you are applying to nine other schools. Unless you have tuition waivers, you are missing out on a few steak dinners.

I wasn’t 100% sure when I was applying, but over the past 2 months, I have made my mind up for sure. But I applied to a ton of little liberal arts schools that didn’t have application fees because it goes against their philosophies  Only school I applied to with an application fee was Florida State University (backup school).
