What to do after sending acceptance deposit...

Sorry, maybe this looks useless, but I just want to make sure I do everything that I have to… So, can you list things that you (especially for Transfer Students) have to fill out, send, or anything that we have to do after sending the acceptance deposit? All I know for now is the housing and dining sign up… :frowning: Um… I guess I’ll start with the list and people can start adding some that they know… :D

Sign up for housing and dining.

Complete College Bound (for Transfer Students).

Thank you so much…

Sign up for housing/dining

Complete Cornell Bound (for Transfer Students)

Mail final transcript to Cornell

Sign/confirm housing assignment

That's all I have for now...

Thank you diehldun.. Anyone else wants to add something??

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but when do we need to sign up for the TV cable programing? I still CANNOT believe that Cornell charges for cable...

Yeah, does anyone else know what we (transfers) need to do in the meantime?

Should I wait until I receive my after-deposit packet before completing the Cornell Bound?

@diehldun: I have been looking around this website: CUTV and didn't find anything about when the last date to sign up. So I will think that you can subscribe at anytime?? >.<

@intTrf10: I think you can start working on it from now.. since it's due by August 1st.. and you can use ApplicantID to login.. :)

And yes.. It's Cornell Bound.. Not College Bound.. Don't know what was in my mind when I was typing it.. >.<

And I thought of another one.. :D
1. Sign up for housing/dining
2. Complete Cornell Bound (for Transfer Students)
3. Mail final transcript to Cornell
4. Sign/confirm housing assignment
5. Sign up for pre-orientation (optional and depends)

there is no need to sign up for cable...

most of the popular shows are available for stream on the internet...

if you're a news hound there are plenty of free newspapers or tv lounges to get a daily dose...

I can't believe Cornell charges for cable either...but I guess we won't have a lot of spare time to watch T.V.

@ResurgamBell: If you watch videos online a lot.. don't you have to pay more for the internet usage?? >.<

Yeah, I use iChat (video-chat) on my Mac extensively, so I hope Cornell isn't going to charge me for over using the internet!

@diehldun: Unfortunately they will charge us if we use more than 10GB.. Here is the link: RedRover: Frequently Asked Questions

Wow, that is a a little over $1.50 for each extra gb. That will add up fast if you download a lot. Guess I wouldn't be able to... I'm probably using 100gb a month now.

I just found that that's only for RedRover (the Wifi connection).. and the ResNet (the Ethernet-wired connection) is included in our housing cost.. Here is the website: The Residence Hall Network Service (ResNet)

I found something else.. The additional fee is only for RedRover (the Wifi connection).. and the ResNet (the Ethernet-wired connection) is included in our housing cost.. Here is the website: The Residence Hall Network Service (ResNet)

(I hope so.. or is there anyone can confirm this??) -- Just found it.. ResNet is only 5GB!! -sigh-
By the way, what happened with my question about what to do after sending the acceptance deposit?? >.<

i'm pretty much technology-clueless
how much does 1 gb of internet last? if i'm on youtube a lot.. how much gigabytes does that add up to?

What do they mean by 10gb? Does it include downloading stuff that is greater than that? Or everytime we visit a website, we incur a charge. Is wi-fi free on campus overall?

@isolabella: Everytime you open youtube and watch a video from there.. it takes some portion of the quota that we have.. I don't know precisely how big it could be. The only thing that I can think of is.. the longer and better the quality of the videos are, the bigger portion of our quota will be used.. -sigh- Pretty sad huh??

@blazinyan300: Everytime we open a website.. It would take some bytes sent and received.. I would assume the 10GB(for RedRover) or 5GB(for ResNet) quota that we have is the bytes received (anyone can confirm??).. and downloading does affect the quota.. Everytime we visit a website, we decrease the quota. But I guess it's not too bad (the deal that they have).. But I really wonder how much I usually use.. >.< -sigh- and the wi-fi isn't free.. We have to subscribe the RedRover (with a greater quota provided, which is 10GB)

So everyone winds up paying extra. Isn't it cheaper to subscribe to cellphone internet service and access websites using your cellular wi-fi connection? Can't you in theory connect via an ethernet cable? Is it free then or it affects your quota as well.

Fri3nds04, well I guess we should just save all our iChat/YouTubing, etc. for in-room ethernet use then...

@blazinyan300: According to what I read from cit.cornell.edu website, we would have a choice to subscribe RedRover (the wireless version for internet connection), and we are also given wired internet connection (the ResNet). However, both are not for free. The RedRover's quota is 10GB, and the ResNet's quota is 5GB. If you use more than that, you will have to pay the fee for using extra. BUT.. I'm not sure if that's really what they mean.. Maybe we should ask someone who knows more than me.. :)

@diehldun: iChat/YoutTubing will also cut off some of our quota.. I wish it were free for the in-room ethernet use.. >.<
