Oh my goodness, I just realized that I mis-read… there’s a quota for in-room internet usage too?!? I thought it was just for RedRover (wireless)!

So everytime we access a website, we pay for it. That is so screwed up. I mean we even pay for TV and the phone. How are we expected to do hw and stuff.

@diehldun: Yeah.. I was disappointed when I knew there is a quota for the ResNet.. -sigh- It would have been great if we could get online for unlimited period of time or usage.. Like what I have been doing.. >.< Hahaha..

@blazinyan300: I know.. I’m so disappointed too.. >.<

OKAY.. I guess I really need to clear things up.. >.< I don’t know what is going on with me.. SO THE QUOTA FOR BOTH WIRED AND WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTION ARE 10 GB… Sorry for the confusion.. >.<

Here are the sources: [ResNet Terms and Conditions](<a href=“Welcome | IT@Cornell”>Welcome | IT@Cornell) and [RedRover: Frequently Asked Questions](<a href=“Welcome | IT@Cornell”>Welcome | IT@Cornell)

The only time you will face an issue with going over the usage limit is if you download excessively. When I lived on campus we had a 2GB limit and I only went over once because I downloaded the entire series of 24…and got a whopping 28 cent bill.

If you must download movies, tv shows or music use DC++

So you can’t download nor upload stuff. What about watching movies online via your pc?

You can download and upload…just be moderate. I repeat…unless you download excessively or spend hours video chatting, it’s very difficult to exceed your limit.

I watched TV and chatted online all the time with my 2GB limit and went over once.

@dewdrop87: When you lived on campus, did you use webcam or IM to chat with others?? I watch a lot of anime (online).. read a lot of manga (online as well).. open a lot of websites.. and browse around.. plus I use webcam a lot too.. So I want to make sure I can still do what I have been doing (well of course I can still do it.. it’s just whether I am willing to pay that extra bill or not.. >.<)

Thanks so much. Then it is bearable. I assumed it was the whole semester. Now I assume that the libraries have computers. When you access those, does this usage charge play a role also? And we can print from the library by logging into our accounts. How many pgs can we print a week?

limit is for every month

I used AIM and was signed on 24/7. My friend used a webcam 4 hours a day and ran up a large bill…so be careful there. Browsing around the internet isn’t going to use up your allotment. I believe you can monitor your usage…so just be responsible.

I was assuming it was for the whole semester too..!! Cool.. Thanks dewdrop87.. Um, one more question.. Do you think it’s better if we subscribe both or just one of them? Which one did you choose?

I don’t quite understand your question…what do you want to subscribe to?

I don’t believe your usage at the library counts against your 10GB limit. You can print via net-print. There is no limit but there is a per page charge and it costs more to print in color. If you plan to print or copy on campus it would be to your advantage to purchase a vendacard…you load money onto it and it acts as a debit card.

the ResNet or RedRover.. Is it better if we subscribe both or just one of them?

ResNet (ethernet) and RedRover (wi-fi) are through the same people so you can bet both not just one or the other. So if an ethernet connection is faster it comes out of the same 10Gb/mo that Wi-fi access comes from. So if you have a laptop with wireless card (or other wi-fi device) get both so you can either use wi-fi or ethernet.

Ohhhhh.

Well…you have to subscribe to ResNet if you plan to use the internet jack in your dorm room. I also subscribed to RedRover b/c I had my laptop on campus all the time.

Okay.. Thank you so much nickbuddy and dewdrop87 :)

Wait so we don’t get free printing. We need to pay to print stuff out. Then isn’t it better to have our own printer?

Yup.. I think so.. Some people said in previous posts about having laser printer or all in one printer.. :)

Most students do have their own printer. On campus printing is just for convenience or for those who choose to not have a printer.
