I will be completing my EE undergrad in Fall of 2012, but most grad schools' start dates are in fall. And I only have one class to take during my last semester.

Have any of you guys had a similar situation?

I'm not sure what I should do during spring and summer of 2013 between undergrad and grad school. I was thinking of just taking extra classes just for the sake of receiving an uninterrupted flow of financial aid. I could also look for an internship in the area, but the income from that will probably decrease the amount of financial aid I receive when starting grad school. Or I could just sit around and do nothing for eight months.

I'm not really sure. Does anyone have any advice?

I’m not exactly old enough to give sound advice but taking random/interesting classes and just having a good time on campus sounds like a good plan, if it’s cheap with the finaid.

Would be a good time to pursue some interest that you didn’t have time for and is also practical, like entrepreneurship or marketing or something. Not to mention, some easy classes could clean up your GPA a little (if that’s an issue at all).

I think you are being handed a rare opportunity to 1) pursue an interest that you don’t otherwise have much time to pursue and/or 2) do an internship to get some work experience in your field. (Remember, you don’t necessarily have to do either full-time.) Both activities will enrich your life, give you a break from academia (of which you’d had plenty and are about to have plenty more), and even if it impacts your financial aid for a year, the experiences will be well worth it in the long run. If you can, take some time to travel as well - the world is a big place and there’s a lot of it to see.
