What to do during Course Add/Drop if I want to take more than 18 credits

Hey guys,

So i'm going a double major and I would need to take 20 credits my first semester. But I know the limit is 18 for freshmen and I have to talk to my adviser to get that waived. I haven't been in contact with my adviser yet and my course add/drop is coming up. How would I approach course add/drop if I don't have permission yet to take more than 18 credits?

I'm partly confused because I don't enroll in my FWS until later on and without that, I'm sitting at 17 credits.

Thanks for the help

If you’re Arts and Sciences, you don’t sign up for classes until orientation week after you meet with your adviser (unless that’s changed this year). So there is your opportunity. What sort of double major are you planning where you need 20 credits your first semester. I’m a double major and didn’t decide to do it until I had already started my sophomore year and I don’t need any 20 credit semesters to finish my requirements.

i think that there’s an 18 credit limit on JTF for all students, regardless of year, or at least that’s what my adviser told me last time i met with her.

you’ll have to use an add/drop form and take it to the professor who teaches the class you want to enroll in. i’d suggest enrolling in the classes more likely to be closed out, and then going to the larger classes with an add/drop slip. that’s what i did. and email the professors.

oops, wrong area LOL

At least in the old system, if you are taking some 1 or 2 credit classes, you can add those last and get above the limit. I’ve never had any trouble adding more than 18 credits (until I tried to add over 22…)
