Looking at many colleges, 2100 seems to be minimum and sometimes average for an entire college population. I will do my best go to high, but I want to see how many I need to answer.

-Math-I excel at it and enjoy it. Get almost all easy and medium and the occasional hiccup on hard questions(which I omit if I'm not sure). How many can I get wrong and get a 700? How many can I omit and get a 700?

-Writing-just like Math in that there is only one right answer, also good at this.

-Critical Reading-I struggle here and I might have to omit a lot of vocab and passage questions, if I get enough time, especially to check over my work. I'm almost certain that I will get some wrong in this and omit some. Can someone give me some general #s, like if I get 5 wrong and omit 3, or the minimum I can get wrong/omit to get a 700?

Hey RahoulVA, every SAT's curve is different but I will give you some averages.

Math- ~8 omit, ~6 wrong

CR- ~9 omit, ~7 wrong

Writing-
49 MC (0 wrong, 0 omit), 3 Essay OR
47 MC (2 wrong, 2 omit), 7 Essay OR
44 MC (4 wrong, 5 omit), 9 essay OR
42 MC (6 wrong, 7 omit), 11 essay OR
40 MC (7 wrong, 9 omit), 12 essay

Good Luck!

P.S. As you can see, it doesn't pay to omit. The reward for guessing right >>>> penalty for guessing wrong

most likely the Math curve will not be that generous..in October losing more than 5 raw points (so 5 omit or 4 wrong or any other way you want to lose them) would bring you below 700...

So in general how much is each question worth? That might help me in decisions of whether to omit or to guess. I always almost always eliminate with process of elimination so guessing might be my strategy on some problems. I never guess with math though because I know I can figure it out somehow with enough time.

Quick question: is there a test I can sign up for before January 26th without paying the late fee?

A general rule, for me anyway, is if you can eliminate at least two then guess (relevant only to CR and W though). The only ones that should be omitted are the ones that you have not gotten to, or the ones in which you have no idea. Good luck.

Never omit. You can retake the SAT, so leaving it up to chance to get some extra points isn't bad.

ALSO If you leave one blank, you might get 780 or something, and if you guess on that one, you'll get 780 if you get it wrong, 800 if you get it right--you only stand to gain points. In general, when you get to one or two questions you don't know, guess no matter what--though, of course, eliminate first if you can.

I think it's more like a 49 + a 4 or 5 essay for a score of 700. I know someone who got a 760 with a 49 + 8 essay, so a 3essay for a 700 isn't that implausible.

So what about a 650 on W and a 600 on CR??? Guys, please tell me that's my goal. And oh yes, I do know how to get a 800, so you don't have to tell me. :-)
