Hi everyone, I wanted to get some advice for my senior year plans. This will be very long but please bear with me.
Freshman year, I attended a large public school and took the following classes:
- Honors Biology
- Honors Geometry
- Honors 9th Lit
- AP US Government (5)
- Spanish I
- Health/Fitness
- Intro Business
- Intro Art My unweighted GPA was a 3.92 on a 4.33 scale.
I decided to take my sophomore classes online for many reasons (scheduling issues, family hardships, medical issues, etc.) and I took the following classes (I can’t take Honors classes online, only APs):
- AP World History (3)
- AP Environmental Science (4)
- Physics
- Latin I
- Advanced Algebra II
- 10th Lit
My GPA was a 4.16 on a 4.33 scale.
I took these classes with Georgia Virtual School which is 100% accredited and used by public schools in Georgia. I am also taking my junior classes online and this is my schedule:
- AP US History
- AP English Language
- AP Microeconomics & Macroeconomics
- Chemistry
- Latin II
- Accelerated Pre-Calculus
I need advice on what I should do for senior year- should I stay in online school or go back to my public school? I am looking to get into a top college such as Georgetown, USC, Dartmouth, Notre Dame, etc. (between around 10 and 30% acceptance rates) for a degree in Finance/Economics.
I took the SAT for the first time during sophomore year and scored a 1370 without much studying. I plan to take it again until I score a 1470 or higher.
My extracurriculars have never been strong because I did not realize the importance of them and because I have not had excellent opportunities at both the public school and online school, but they currently are:
- 3 years gymnastics coach
- runner (half-marathons, 10ks, etc.)
- 4 self-fundraised service trips
- 10 years soccer player (no awards, injured knee)
- tutor
If I returned to my public school, I would
- Be graduating from a “real school”
- Have a class rank
- Have better teacher rec letters (probably)
- Possibly be able to improve extracurriculars
BUT
- Would only be able to take 2 APS (so 8 total in highschool)
- GPA would probably be lower
- Less time to focus on finding outside extracurriculars (like internships)
- More time with friends
Staying at online school would let me take the classes I want (which are AP Literature, AP Physics, AP Calc AB, AP Statistics, Mathematics of Finance, and Latin III) and my GPA would probably be higher, plus I will have taken 10 or more APs. However, I am still scared of the stigma around online school and don’t want it to impact my college admissions (if I returned to public school, they would transcribe my online transcripts into their system, so it wouldn’t say that I attended GAVS, only my public school for all four years). Which sounds like a better plan?
SORRY THIS IS SO LONG
