What to do for synthesis essays?

<p>In class we just started talking about the synthesis essay and my teacher said that we're not supposed to take a position on the issue, just "discuss the sources".</p>

<p>Does anyone know what she means by this? I always thought this essay was basically an open argument in which you're given all of your evidences.</p>

<p>The synthesis prompt reminded me most of an APUSH DBQ.</p>
