I'm wanting to register for Physiology 209 (section 1), but it's reached its full capacity.
do courses generally tend to open up closer to September or once school starts?
i was thinking that I'd attend the class anyway, and hope a few people drop the course so that I can register in it.
has anyone been in a similar situation? what's the best thing to do?

keep checking minerva obsessively, especially during the add/drop period, or "shopping week" or whatever McGill calls it (The first couple weeks of class when people tend to change their minds the most). As soon as a spot opens up, POUNCE! Also, it might help to go speak to the professor and plead your case, especially if this is a course you NEED to take. You could maybe even shoot off an e-mail to your academic avisor but I doubt that that would be of much help. If you know someone who is taking the course but doesn't really need to, beg them to drop it, and make sure you're next to them when they do so that you can pounce. If this course has a waitlist, get on it. That's all I got. Hope this helps. Good luck.

thanks for the advice! i'll definitely be checking minerva obsessively for the next little while. & in september. unforunately there's no waitlist (that i know of anyway). thanks again =)

S wanted a course that was filled back in June. He emailed the professor, argued his case and got an over-ride code. He registered for the course yesterday without a problem.

^ how did your S have a reason other than "i want to take this course"? if so, how'd your S get through?

It was a language course with very limited enrollment.

I would say check Minerva regularly. They might add a few places.

i really hope a few spaces open up... right now the available seats are "-3"... which is doesnt sound good. i emailed the professor and he said to talk to the course coordinator. she said to check back august 15 or something...
this is stressful!

Same here, math hmmm... i forgot the number, well calc A something,,,but I emailed the fac of engineering and they told me that I could register a week later even though it was full. They are addressing this issue. Once something fiklls up too much they just re calibrate and move some courses around so that a new class can be opened up.
