What to do if Deferred: NEW POLL ADDED!

what about deadlines

are there any deadlines for deferred EAers?

If the only difference between the EA essay and your revision is a typo, I don't think it's worth resending. If you really rewrote it (taking a different angle or something), I'd fax it in and say "replace old supplemental essay with this new one" or something like that. I disagree with Mr. Rune, it's definitely not too late.

correct me if I'm wrong, but your app just goes back into the regular pool, right? (so you don't have to worry about deadlines) though if you want to send in any additional information that you didn't include the first time around, you might want to get it to them ASAP

when is the deadline for sending all of this stuff? i know there isn't a specific one...but in general, when should we send it by? all opinions greatly appreciated!

thnx

i'd say after mid-january and before march when the committee convenes.

do u guys really think the midyear rep makes a diff? cuz my grades hav been steady for quite sometime now...

i dono about the Mid-yEAR thing, because the adcom says i do not need to send that in.

anyone ever hear of any deferreess who did NOT continue sending harvard their new achievements and did not bump up their GPA a whole point and still got accepted? I don't mean zoning out completely but I mean like they just didn't send any thing after getting deferred and still got in

I don't know, if the "deferrees" are people who stood out enough but didn't stand out enough (aka the cliffhanger kid), then I don't see how they could be accepted in the regular round in which there are more kids. How will you stand out against 10,000+ kids? You gotta do something.

That's really very rare. The huge majority of accepted deferrees don't just get in without doing anything. They didn't make pests of themselves, but they took serious and concerted action to get accepted in April. But you can consider it a polite denial if you don't want to further your application to the instutition.

Joey

I am going to write a letter to go with my supplementary stuff. Should the letter be a response to those kinda questions "Why Us?". Or should you be highlighting your achievements instead?

the thing i really hate is how harvard (or any of the other ivies or so-called prestigious schools for that matter) is viewed as a "success standard"
i know that being rejected from harvard is not failure
but tell that to the 90+% of the people around me who think it is

How do I send another essay? What platform should I use to send additional essays?
Any assistance on additional details will be appreciated.

I think they need some perspective on life. Because if that's the benchmark for failure, then life, with its ups and downs, will likely be one long disappointment. And they're probably too smart to let that happen to themselves.

So, anyone know the latest time we can send our materials in?

it's not over til it's over. which means probably before march, while they're still handling admissions. who knows, it could tip the scale.

The sad fact is that you guys are members of one of the largest graduating high school classes in US history. Harvard applications are up 20% from last year and thus your odds of acceptance have gone down. What scares me about many of you is your obession with Harvard as some kind of symbol of your viability as a human-being. There are a host of wonderful schools out there and an acceptance letter from Harvard should not be the way you measure your self-worth. I kind of feel sorry for those of you who do.

here here I agree with the above post

I'm in the junior class. All around the US my class is one of the smallest to go through the system. Does this help chances or would they just give the seniors of this year a better chance to transfer to Harvard?

No, baggins. Classes in the US will be getting bigger for the next several years, possibly until 2009-12. Your school's junior class size is an anomaly.

My impression, too, is that American colleges are increasingly popular among foreign students, which adds to the crush.
