So I'm a Junior Electrical Engineering student and haven't received any offers from companies I applied for summer internships. I have just shy of a 3.6 GPA and am involved in some clubs. A lot of people have said that if you don't get an internship it's tough getting a job after graduation. I am trying to find other opportunities like assisting professors with research, but it's not going too well. My question is what should I do if I can't get an internship this summer? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Get some kind of job over the summer, and spend a LOT of time researching the industries you would want to explore after graduation. You should have a full set of companies you want to apply to ready to go by the time September rolls around, and you should be applying as much as possible from September until you get a job.

Good luck! Internships are generally very helpful, but they are not the only path to success.

I’m in the same exact boat as you. Junior EE, 3.2 gpa, not having any success finding internships. I’m really really worried that I will be screwed after college if I don’t have an internship.

I would recommend a few things: have someone you know and trust review your resume and help you to practice interview. If you haven’t gotten any interviews, it could be that your resume and/or cover letter have issues that need to be addressed. Then, network, network, network - tap into your college’s alumni database, parents, your parents’ friends. If you are applying to jobs online, then you are in a huge pool of candidates and only the best of the best stand out. If you are getting interviews but no offers, you need to look at your interviewing skills. Hit your college’s career center for help. Good luck.
