What to do if placed in undeclared major?

I got into UCI and I have been placed into undeclared major when I chose first major & alternate major. What happens next? How do I get into the major I chose?

You will have to talk with your orientation advisor and plan a strategy to declare a major once you take your intended majors pre-requisites. Since you were not admitted directly into any major, you will not get priority in any major related courses. It is possible to declare your first and/or alternate major after you have successfully completed these requirements but there is no guarantee especially if these majors are highly competitive and impacted.

So what was your 1st choice and alternate majors?

My first major is Business Information Management & my alternate major is Business Administration. I know these are impacted majors and they are highly competitive, but if I am unable to get into the major even after I complete the pre-requisites courses, would that prolong my graduation? Are there alternatives if I cannot get in the major?

It could prolong your graduation depending upon the courses you have already taken to switch majors and if these courses would fulfill requirements for another major besides the two mentioned above. You will have access to a orientation advisor that can help you navigate this process. Business Economics might be another major to consider. Best of luck.
