What to do if you get deferred...

Hey everyone, I know lots of you are probably starting to come up with back-up plans as we approach the December 24th ER deadline. I really have a feeling that I'm going to get deferred this coming week, and I want to see what some of you plan to do if you get that dreaded letter in the mail. Anyway, here's my backup plan. What do you think?

So lets say I get deferred.

Cry for 3 hours straight

Realize that I still may have a chance

Kick ass in BC calc and get a 3.85 gpa or higher this semester

Retake the ACT in Feb. to try and score a 30

Hopefully go into a coma until April/May so that I don't have to wait for a final decision

Score a 5 on my AP tests

At that point, if I get rejected from there:

I live a mile away from Oakland University, so I'll either go there or OCC and get some easy transferable credits out of the way for a year

Maintain a sweet GPA

Apply to U of M AGAIN for the Fall 2011 semester as a transfer (I really hope I don't have to do this, I want to get out of my house so bad and live on my own)

And if that fails, then I hang myself in my closet (kidding). I got into state, but screw that. I don't want to go there and waste a bunch of money on living costs at a school I don't even want to attend. What are your thoughts?

Minus the suicide and coma, it sounds like a good deal to me. I went to a CC and it did suck to live at home, seriously, but it was worth it to get to come to Michigan. If this is what you want, you have to be willing to do what it takes to get it!

i have no actual advice, but your post made me giggle :D

cry for 5 hours because i REALLY REALLY want to go to UMich

study day and night and get a freaking 4.0

bust my a$$ on ecs

if all else fails, i’ll probably end up going to slu and HANGING myself because then i would have to stay at home (WITH MY PARENTS UGH)

love the responses guys haha. i definitely will go nuts living at home, but it’s gonna be so much cheaper to get bull$hit classes out of the way with no extra living costs if that’s what i end up having to do. so i guess it’s not a huge deal. i’m def. going to end up transferring to michigan eventually though if i don’t get in. i LOVE the campus, it’s just awesome. anybody have any thought out back up plans?

Well I think its great that you have plans, some students don’t. Well I was deferred from the school myself, it was my " top choice", and I knew it was going to be a reach ( now I even question if the school is simply too close to home for me). So I’m definately not surprise of a deferrel, but it reminded me even more how out of touch I’am with the school and with statistics of deferrel acceptances show on how I no longer should have it as a top choice. I think you should highly start to consider other schools, and remove it from your top choice since note: a deferrel is not a rejection ( for some) but its definately not a acceptance either. So get to know oher schools more, and taking test to improve your chances of acceptance is a great ideal, one in which you can use to apply for all universities your applying to.
Overall my thoughts of your plan seems understandable.

Coolbrezze, the word is “deferral”. Not “deferrel”. I’ve seen you misspell that like a hundred times…

^ I would have to agree with Coolbreeze.

Why do you want to come to Michigan so bad?
As a current student, I definitely like it here, but I can’t imagine anyone crying for 3 hours for not being to come here… Please explain.

nooothing.

i dk how to explain it, exactly.

if i don’t get into UMich then I have to go to SLU. which means I have to stay at home. and i don’t like home.

Why is Michigan your only non-residential option? Just wondering.

@ blackpen, i made the thread slightly sarcastic for added humor to cheer some people up on the forum. it seems like everyone is ridiculously stressed on here, so i figured it wouldn’t hurt. but no, i’m starting to consider state and oakland as 2nd and 3rd choices rather than the bottom of my list. and there’s just something about the umich campus and the city of ann arbor that i really love. that’s why i really want to go there, in addition they have an excellent engineering program. hope that answers your question.

Consider u-m dearborn. It’s not ann arbor, but I’m pretty sure your credits/grades will transfer.
