<p>quite honestly I absolutely had no idea that it wasn’t a good idea to go to the same school as your undergrad.</p>

<p>Truly depends on your school. I know many people who received all of their degrees from Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford or Yale, and it bears no problem at all 
But, as others said before, if you did engineering at Yale for example, it’s wise to go to MIT for an MA and a PhD :)</p>
