What to do on a visit to USC?

I have a friend who will be a freshman at USC this year. I'll be visiting her in September - and since this is her first year, she doesn't really know much about what to do for fun in LA, etc. So I'm looking for some suggestions for things to do & see in LA or within USC. Any ideas?

Los Angeles is a vast & diverse city, you can do/see anything here. What might you be interested in doing on your visit? (i.e tourist sites, nightlife, sports, beaches, museums, etc). Your answer will help us narrow down what suggestions to make.

If you're looking for shopping, definitely check out my favorites:

The Grove
http://www.thegrovela.com/
It's an absolutely beautiful outdoor shopping center (paradise, as I like to call it), especially at night when everything's lit up. It has great restaurants such as The Cheesecake Factory and a 14-screen theater. You could definitely spend an entire day there.

Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade
http://www.downtownsm.com/
Three entire blocks filled with shops, restaurants, a theater and street performances! If that isn't enough for you, one end of the promenade faces Santa Monica Place, a huge mall.

Rodeo Drive
http://www.laavenue.com/rodeo
When you're perfectly content with just looking at pretty things. You can also buy stuff too, if you're feeling credit card-happy that day. ;)

Old Pasadena
http://www.oldpasadena.com/
Outdoor shopping in a historic setting. It's absolutely wonderful!

I guess I'd be interested in some tourist spots, maybe unique restaurants, and shopping (already covered by margaritasalt17) and just whatever USC students like to do, I guess!
