Ok, i got a dilema, I don't know what to do over the summer. Should I join a NSLC or NYLF program?...or should i attend summer school at UCLA?...Anyone who has participated in any of these programs please help me out! I would really appreciate your opinion.
Do you have any suggestions for summer programs/activities?

I have not heard of any of these, but am going to attend a baseball camp, basketball camp, exploration (at wellesley college), and going to NASA Academy. Maybe if you can describe what these programs are I can give you a little help.

Mmm... what are your interests and why would you want to go to certain programs? (Because NYLF & NSLC aren't very impressive/selective if that was your aim.) If you want to go there for the experience... what would you take at UCLA?

I'm not fully sure about them either, that's why I'm asking, but they are both some sort of conference. NSLC takes place around the country (mainly DC) but the one for medicine that I want to join is in Berkeley.I'm not fully sure about the NYLF I know if I go it will be at UCLA. They both give us(participants) the chance to meet medical experts, researchers ..etc..we also get to debate on important current medical issues. That's all pretty much know about them.

I guess these programs aren't that impressive huh?...If I attend UCLA I will probably get something like Intro to Psychology, and I was thinking maybe Women's Studies?...or Spanish

what "good" programs are out there?

Hmm...I don't know any medical programs...

so I'm I better off going to UCLA than NSLC or NYLF?

Well...I'm sort of familiar with UCLA...it's got a good medical program...I suppose lol

or you could get a job or internship...

Thanks you guys, girls (???lol) for your responses!

so there's no positive feedback on NSLC or NYLF?......

I'm hoping to attend NSLC this summer for Diplomacy abroad......2 weeks in Pairs, Brussels, and the Hague................that is, IF I can raise the money.

I'm fundraising like crazy......

As far as the experience goes, I've heard that everyone who went had a terrific time. It seems that the conference really broadens people's horizons. As far as the programs being impressive, it seems that you can self-nominate, so that makes the programs less selective in people's minds.

Good luck and have fun over the summer........most importantly, do something you enjoy

Thanks Helix....I was losing hope on the NSLC program, If I do go I will probably attend the Medicine one in Berkeley. Thank you really did give me some positive feedback...
I hope you also have a great summer, it sound like fun!!!...and I hope that you get enough money to attend....:).

in the socal, u could alwayz volunteer @ hospitals such as CHLA (Childrens Hospital Los Angeles) or obtain shadowing positions by contacting the doctors in the departments u're interested in.

yeah..I'm already going to volunteer there! (I live very close) I'm just waiting for my teachers' recommendation letters. smanz do u volunteer @ CHLA? If you do, can you give me some feedback on the program. Thanks.

thanks!

same to you prettynpink:)

If you like to travel you can spend six weeks in any of about twenty countries with the Experiment in International Living. I went to Thailand and it was the best six weeks of my life.
And if you like to be outdoors there is the Student Conservation Association. Last summer I spent a month at Denali National Park in Alaska doing trail work (and running from grizzly bears). Also an amazing experience, (and this one is FREE).

wow...sounds like lots of fun!(^^^)..phishfan where can I get more info on these programs?...thanks a bunch...:)
