Hi CC,
I am now a sophomore in hs and I have been looking into what I should do this summer. I want to apply to a summer program, preferably free, or an internship (this seems less likely given my grade-level, though I would be 17 by then). I have scoured this site for suitable programs, but I’m finding that many of them are geared toward STEM career paths, and as much as I don’t want to close that door for myself, I’m leaning toward law and humanities. So my questions are:
Are there any programs/internships I may apply for that are geared toward debate/law/humanities/not geared toward a particular career path?
If there are none, what other options do I have? I’d really rather not do SAT prep classes or anything alng those lines because I will be doing that on my own anyway).
Thanks!
P.S. volunteering opportunities would be great too though preferably nothing too expensive
Summer Discovery may have some programs worth looking into. I did a Social Justice Research Program there last summer for three weeks, although they also have a Law program, and a few other humanities-based workshops.
Summer@Brown also offers courses in a wide variety of subjects.
Rustic pathways offers volunteer trips.
You could try to get a job over the summer, many of my friends have worked during summer vacation.
@yonceonhismouth I checked out the Summer Discovery internships and programs and they sound amazing! Unfortunately, however, I am not in a position to pay that much for these programs. Thank you for your suggestions!
Look into TASS (for sophomores, on critical black studies) and TASP (for juniors, humanities). TASP was by far and away the best experience of my life. Both programs are run by the Telluride Association, and they’re both free!
Could you please tell me if the summer discovery bio programs are worth it?
