What to do? Please help!

Hey guys,

First off, let me give you all a quick overview:

I'm an Asian male from Georgia. 32 ACT, 3.7 GPA (unweighted), no major awards. Decent EC's with a few leadership positions. Family income: $50,000~75,000

Accepted: UCLA, UCB, safety state school
Rejected: Stanford, USC, Vanderbilt
Waitlisted: Emory, Oxford

UCLA and UCB are great schools, but unfortunately they haven't given me much aid, since I'm an OOS student.

I accepted my position on Emory and Oxford's waitlist already because I don't have too many options anyways.

I also plan on appealing USC's decision, to give me another option.

Also, my state school (which is a safety) is good for me, and I got full tuition, so that's pretty much confirmed if all else fails.

Like many other high school seniors, I am quite confused with my position. I realize that I'm not in such a bad position as others have been, some with no acceptances at all, but I don't know how to approach this. Should I consider Emory & Oxford, since their decisions are coming after the May 1 deadline when I have to submit my statement to register at most schools? And should I even considering appealing USC's decision? Is it worth it? Lastly, what can I do about UCLA and UCB?

Thanks a lot guys!

You shouldn’t be appealing USC unless there was some administrative error, don’t bother if you’re contesting the admissions committees’ decision.

You can’t do anything about the FA at the UCs, they admit OOS students because of the increased tuition they pay.

It’s OK to send your deposit to UGA and stay on the WL for G & O. If you get off a WL, you will likely loose your deposit if you choose not to attend.

@entomom - OK, thanks for the advice! I was thinking about appealing USC’s decision, but I guess there’s no point. Especially because nothing has changed from the time I applied to the decision.

Yeah, I’ll most likely send in my deposit by the deadline to UGA and stay on the waitlist for Emory & Oxford. If anything, it’ll come down to how much aid I receive.

Actually, I’ve been considering the UCs and appealing their financial aid. I’ll post my final decision here though. Thanks once again!
