I applied to 5 UCs - Berkeley, LA, SD, SC, and Davis. Denied from LA, SD, and SC so far, so I most likely won't make it in UCB or UCD. In other words, I will be denied from all five colleges I applied to. Is there any other option other than attending a junior college? I am appealing but would like to know all options available. I applied only to UCs.

Call up UC Merced and you can go there.

(serious suggestion).

If your heart is set on a top-tier UC then CC is the route to go.

It may not sound good right now, but CC’s are a very good option, particularly places like SMC where it’s easy to transfer to UCLA/USC/Berkeley

I can understand not applying to cal states, or more than 5uc’s if your stats were high enough above ucsc. However, if your stats weren’t and you weren’t UC material, that was a high risk on your part.
To be honest, if you really want to end up at a top tier UC then CC is the route, otherwise look into seeing if any cal states are still accepting applications, or even UCR/UCM.

Hey there,

I know that a CC might sound scary, or make you feel like others will look down on you if do attend it, whatever, but this is not true. It is the BEST way for you right now.

If you attend a CC, you save 2 years of tuition money. Once you do get accepted and attend a UC, the diploma is the same, yet you attain it with half the price. Don’t attend a 4-year institution then transfer, because your chance of admission is MINIMAL. Trust me, been there, done that.

Hope that helps!

Community College for sure. It probably doesn’t sound good right now, but I’m glad I did it. I saved about 40 thousand dollars and it definitely helps you get into better schools.

You should have definitely applied to some state schools. If you’re determined however, on not going to a jc, you could always just not go to college. Otherwise, you probably have very few options available. TheHutts’ suggestion about UC Merced is probably a good one. The school is kind of tanking but that increases your chances of getting in by just asking.

I would definitely go to a jc before uc merced

Assuming that you meet UC minimums and assuming you are a CA resident…

I would call UC Merced and UC Riverside today as I’m pretty sure at least one UC is required to let you in based on the above assumptions.

Appeal to ***all ***the schools. ( It never hurts to try:)

Call up UC Merced and Riverside

Get enrolled in a Community College.

Transfer from Community College to a UC. ( I know that many people do this. so don’t be ashamed.
5 OR don’t go to college and become an entrepeuner!

5 options, so don’t worry you’ll live!

Each UC campus makes admission decisions independently, so acceptance or rejection from one campus is not indicative of your chance at another campus.

If you are UC-eligible but was rejected by all UC campuses you applied to, your application will be forwarded to UC Merced for acceptance. You just need to pay the $60 application fee (no fee, no acceptance).

Thank you everyone, especially collegestress for the easy bullet list. I am UC material and will probably move to Santa Monica to attend SMC. Tuition isn’t an issue for me and I am patient. I will work hard to transfer to a UC.

:)

EASD,
I was thinking about you today and there is maybe one more thing to add to Collegestress’ list.

Take a gap year. Google search ‘gap year ideas’ and submit again to a broader range of schools for 2011 enrollment.

Just another option.

Wheaty

EASD, you don’t have to move to Santa Monica to transfer to a UC. SMC is just one option of many community colleges that offer the ability to transfer to a UC.

Why move to Santa Monica? Any community college would do.

EASD,

One more thing…

We need to find you a better college councilor! No matter which option you pick you should add a really really good college councilor this time. Maybe hire a private councilor this time?

Best,
Wheaty

What are your stats?

His stats from another thread.

Going to a CC is an option, but you may miss the full campus experience. Aren’t there any Calif private schools that are still accepting applications? There are some OOS schools that are still accepting apps. You could go there for a couple of years and then transfer.

Yeah dude, call Riverside and/or Merced or go to community college. Community college is actually a great route. You save so much money and you can end up transferring to a great UC after that. I had a teacher who transferred from CC to Cal so don’t lose hope!
