(What to do to have a) Chance for Cornell 2018

Hi everyone!
So currently, I'm a sophomore at a highly competitive and tough high school in Massachusetts.
I was wondering what I need to improve on in order to even have a chance at getting into Cornell. I messed up this year and I really need to step it up for fourth quarter and junior year.

Freshman (Averages in parentheses):
World History I CP1 no honors offered
Geometry Honors (92)
Spanish II Honors (94)
Biology Honors (97)
English 9 Honors (94)
Band (not weighed but 95)
Gym/Health (not weighed but 100, haha)

Sophomore (Averages so far):
**note: my grades have been god awful this year, i know that.

Algebra II Honors (83)
Spanish II Honors (94)
Chemistry Honors (92)
AP Statistics (81)
World History II Honors (86)
English 10 Honors (91)

FINAL GPA WEIGHTED: 3.89
no idea what my unweighted was until I used an online calculator, not sure how accurate it is, but 3.678

Other:
Amnesty International
SADD
Mock Trial
Speech and Debate
Captain of Middle School Debate team
Active dancer for nine years.

Volunteering:
Assistant teacher at local Sunday school for two years (100 hrs)
Will be full fledged teacher next year
Several dance charity fundraisers (300+ hours)

Any other suggestions as to where I can volunteer that isn't too typical? EVERYONE does the hospital, senior center, or soup kitchen.

Last summer I was in a HUGE dance fundraiser and spent most of summer on that, along with SAT classes lol.
This summer I'm taking summer courses at MIT.

So, what do you guys think would be the kind of colleges I would get into if I continued this way?
And what else do I need to do to have a slight chance at Cornell? A lot, probably. I know you'll say it's impossible, but it can be done. I've seen it happen.
Thank you SO much.

I would say you’d get into some excellent liberal arts colleges. For Ivies, I would recommend raising your math/science grades a bit so you’re more well-rounded, but your resume is impressive and you seem very smart.

it seems like you have a lot going for you so far. i would try to add some leadership roles in the clubs you’re in, and keep your grades up. also, in my opinion Cornell cares more about fit than most other schools. once you decide what college within Cornell would apply to, make sure you have extracurriculars/courses/interests to back it up and that you can make it very clear to the admissions committee why you’re selecting your college and your major. the supplementary essay question gives you plenty of space to do this, but if you can mold your common application essay and resume accordingly i really think it would work in your favor! hope this helps!

I know a person who had a 4.0 uw, great ec’s, and a 2260 on the sat and did not get into Cornell. From personal experience, unless your SAT is a 2300 or higher Cornell has to be considered a reach for you. However, my friend did get into Carnegie Mellon which is a very prestigious school so you can still get into other great schools. Good luck and please chance back!!!
