So this is for my girlfriend. Seven of her colleges have january 1st deadlines and she's finished with her essays and everything else on the common app. However, she was in shock to discover that her counselor has not submitted her school report yet.

She sent her counselor and the other counselors at her school an email. For some reason they don't have their phone numbers posted on the website so she can't call them.

It's sort of her fault for not checking with her counselor if the report was submitted or not, but before the winter break she met with her counselor THRICE asking the counselor to submit her transcript and all.

So her situation is it's the middle of winter break, deadlines are in two days, and no reply from counselors yet.

What can she do? I was wondering if emailing the common app people would help. Ironically, she has a physical copy of her high school transcript, maybe she can fax it?

Please help! her counselor might reply tomorrow but she doesn't know for sure!

She does nothing. Leave the GCs alone. This is business as usual. The school docs trickle in during the next few weeks. It’s nothing to worry about.

BTW: Yours and about 50,000 other posts between now and Jan 03, 2014 will all ask the same question. Happens every year. You can even check the archives.

Yes, the colleges expect the student to finish their portion, submit, and make the payment on time. It is not unusual for a high school to lag a bit in sending the various items they need to send. It is okay as long as they do it in the next couple of weeks, no worries. Colleges don’t hold this against the students.

Assuming she is applying with the common app, she should be able to complete her portion and submit it, and make the payment as well if one is required. The Common App will show that the school report is not complete yet, but all the rest can be done. Maybe she doesn’t know this because she has not actually tried to submit one yet because she thought it wouldn’t work, but she should be able to.

Also, if it isn’t too late, she should not b**** to the GCs, but be nice to them. They are doing her GC recommendation and also will send a mid-year report once first semester grades are complete. So ****ing them off isn’t a good idea, IMHO. Although they do understand that students don’t really know that the colleges give some leeway on the school side of the application, so they forgive some angst on the student’s part. But just saying… being nice to the GC when asking for stuff is a good idea.

Goodness!! I have the same issue. My GC told me before the break that my recs and reports are not going to be done any time soon. I’m sort of also freaking out about this.(sent in my apps anyway). Hopefully she completes it within a week after school opens.:-(
