As of this morning, I’ve been feeling that pre-sick throat discomfort every time I swallow, and it’s making me nervous because tomorrow is my busiest day of the week, 5 classes, including a lab and a midterm. I actually got sick last year this month too, but I only had 1 class to attend and then the peak of my sickness was on a Saturday, so I just powered through and still fell a little behind anyway because quarter system.
But if it’s as bad as it was last year (threw up out of my Uber window on the way back from a NyQuil run and got pulled over by a cop to ask if I’d been drinking), I don’t know if I can make it through the day tomorrow or Thursday. Im already struggling in some of these classes so i don’t think I’d recover from a whole day off.
I’m sure I’m not the only person on a quarter system who’s gotten sick before… any advice?
Do your best to get a good rest, use a humidifier, take vitamins, eat well. You don’t know if it will be as bad as last year so don’t worry about something before it happens.
My daughter has been sick for the past month with bronchitis. Not easy but she has had to just power through.
If you think you might have strep, get to the health center as quickly as possible as they can do a culture and get you on antibiotics.
Adding to the above, having a fever is when you have to miss class. No fever, power through. Getting tested for strep is a good idea, and once this illness has passed get a flu shot.
go to the health center and get a strep test if you have a bad sore throat. Buy some “Coldeeze” to try to limit a cold.
Stop doing anything other than going to class/homework.
I remember taking more than one exam on the quarter system while feverish and sick with the flu. You just have to power through, unless you are deadly contagious. But, yes, as @bopper said, go to the health center.
Go get some Sambucol or black elderberry syrup. It boosts your immune system if you take it as directed. My daughter (who was a freshman in college) had both strains of the flu last year and instead of Tamiflu took the Sambucol and vitamin c tabs and drank a ton of fluids and was back on her feet in 2 days instead of 7. Good luck, hope you feel better quickly! Stress makes you feel worse so try to do some deep breathing also to calm down any fears.
Thank you for all the responses; I went to CVS that day for some anti-sickness supplies, and either that all has helped or I was overreacting because of last year, but the sickness has not been as bad. At least no fever at all. I skipped the gym for 2 days to rest, but I am feeling up to it again this morning.
Also I got a Chemistry midterm grade back from Monday, and I got a 70, and the class average was a 68, which makes that a B/B- which I am very happy with, as I had been doing below average before.
