What to do when waitlisted?

I got waitlisted at WUSTL and I’m not sure what to do. The letter said that final decisions for people on the waitlist are made bye the end of June. Do I just go ahead and accept admission at another school on May 1? And, if I am eventually admitted to WUSTL, do I just tell the other school that I’m not coming? Anybody care to explain the logistics of the waitlisting process? Thanks in advance.

With Wash U let them know you would go there if accepted. They waitlisted a ton of folks last year. Send more info, have your GC contact them. In the meantime pick a school and send your deposit. If you get in off the waitlist you can let them know. It happens all the time

Since you won't hear from your waitlisted school until after the deadline for other schools, you may have to pick a backup school and send in a deposit. Then, if you get into the waitlisted school, you can inform the other school that you've withdrawn. However, you'll lose your deposit. It all depends on how much you want to go.

Of all the schools to be waitlisted at and have a hope, WUSL is not a great one. It seems to be practice there to waitlist nearly everyone not accepted. Many say it's because of their aggressive marketing. Have your counselor call, update them with anything you have but don't count on it.
