What to do when you're WAIT LISTED. . .

Just to let anyone who is still waiting for SUNY Purchase wait list that it may be near the end. My s just got his “no, sorry” from them yesterday in the mail, it was a pretty nice letter, compared to say, the Julliard email!

But he’s not too bummed. He had several acceptances to choose from, and was totally committed to the BFA Acting program at MMC, has chosen his classes for next year, etc.

But I thought I would let anyone who was waiting know that the list is winding down, you should hear soon, hopefully with the answer that you want!

Here is the waitlist thread from last year that follows several people and schools through a couple months of waitlist stories. Some really good info and insight for those wondering how the whole waitlist thing tends to play out…

MamaBear, thank you for bumping this thread. My D is waitlisted at 3 schools and anxiously awaiting news from the last school, NYU. This thread was very informative reading. Fingers still crossed at my house.

TheaterMom2009,
We’re in the same situation. D waitlisted at three schools, waiting on NYU. Geez! This was easier when we did it!

Just bumping this thread for the benefit of those who (like my D) are on wait lists this year. There is some wonderful information here, and some inspiring stories.

But if you don’t have time to read it all and just want the bottom line, it’s this:

Communicate with your wait list school(s) and let them know just how interested you are in joining their program if the opportunity arises. Then drop it.

Invest your time in researching the schools to which you HAVE acceptances. Figure out what’s wonderful and exciting about those schools.

Choose a school from among those, pay your deposit by May 1 and DON’T LOOK BACK!

IF and only IF you hear sometime during the summer that you have been accepted off a wait list, cross that bridge then. Don’t keep stressing over wondering whether you’ll hear. Just enjoy getting to know your future classmates at your chosen school and be excited that you are going to college at a wonderful school that YOU CHOSE to audition for (or apply to, in the case of non-audition schools)

Believe me, I’m NO expert. I’m going to post this on my bathroom mirror and remind myself to encourage my D with it every day.
