Hey guys, this coming year I'm taking on the challenge on self-studying four APs! This may not sound very challenging to some of you CCers I'm sure, but for me it's something new :).

Anyways, while I'm reading my prep books for the APs (5 steps to a 5 for Macro/micro econ, Barron's for psychology, and PR for APHG) what should I do? In others words, should I be handwriting notes somewhere, or will reading these prep books be sufficient in order to get at least 4s on the exams?

Also, when is a good time to start studying for these APs? I plan on using up August to go through the Psych and Econ books at least once (since I won't be getting my new PR APHG book until September) and then going through all the books again over Winter Break or throughout the school year. What do you guys think?

Thank you for everything!

U’ve made a good choice on the self-studies. Psych and Human Geo are easy. From Psych, I speak w/ experience (although I was in the class) and Human Geo from word of mouth. Then the AP econ’s tie in nicely together.

Ur probably better off reviewing for those classes during the year, not just at several points. U’ll learn it better if u did it regularly instead of periodic binges of info. Maybe u can spend an hour or two on one subject a day, and rotate them daily.

Alright. Thank you. My initial plan was to go through the books once over summer, then starting winter break, continually review until ap test dates.

Do you think it’s necessary to take notes from the prep books?

Does anyone else have input?

Breaking down the information and writing it would help you better synthesize the info, but it is also a more time-consuming process. If u’re visual/auditory learner, highlight, if u’re kinesthetic, write it down.

AP Psych is basically a vocabulary test, so highlighting w/o notes would most likely work. Human Geo is supposed to be easy, highlighter.

AP Econ are more difficult (I avoided AP Macroecon in favor of AP Comp Gov’t, b/c at my school AP Macroecon is rough), so if u’re going to take notes, this is where u want to focus.

I would say to make a schedule at the beginning of the year and stick with it. Plan out lessons and text exerpts and set out plenty of time over the course of the year to tackle your studies, keeping in mind the rigor and demand of the classes you’ll formally take in school and your extracurriculars.

Thanks guys. This is the info that I’m comprehending from your posts:
-Take notes on the Econs
-Highlighting/just reading Psych/HG are sufficient since they are very vocabulary based
-Study frequently throughout the year

Yes?
