Well I got a 790 on the Math 2 SAT2 (first try) and I don't know if I should take the test again. I know I could get an 800 but will it give me even a 1% better chance of getting into the college I want?

are you serious? it's a 790.

i'm taking the SAT IIs in a week and I would kill for a 790.. and I'm applying to top schools

Sure a 790 is a good score but the dilemma is: would taking the Math 2 again for the mythical 800 score be worth it?

I wouldn't retake it. Better to spend that time doing something else.

Not really. If you're doing it for college admissions, don't bother. If it's about personal achievement or something, then go for it.

dont bother. study for another sat ii and get another 790 on something else

If you guys say so, though I'll always have the paranoid mindset that the other guy got into the top level college and I didn't because she/he had a 800 and I had a 790 =

That's a patently false viewpoint. 10 points on one test won't make or break you. I mean, 100 points on the SAT I might do that, but not 10 points on freakin' Math Level 2.

yeah. you will look obsessive compulsive if you retake. i have the same score, and i wouldn't dream of spending another early saturday morning for 10 freaking points.

yea the ad coms will know that if you got a 790 you could get an 800, since its only a one or two question difference. They aren't going to say "NO HE GOT ONE QUESTION TOO MANY WRONG, REJECT REJECT REJECT!!!!!!"

We'll man if your seriously up for it and have the confidence that you can score 800 without an enormous amount of studying I say go for it.

BUT the people on this thread have a point. Having a 790 on another SATii would look pretty darn good, with time well invested.

sorry to hijack the thread but would you retake the MATH Level 2 if got a 790 in 9th grade, without any precalc knowledge?

That's virtually impossible to get a 790 if you had "no precalc knowledge". Half the damn test is precalculus/trigonometry!

All I knew was algebra 2 and used the calculator for everything else. (calculators can be used for most trig questions you know...).

I know that if I took it know i could get an 800, since I would prbly waste less time on the calculator...so would it be worth it?

Don't waste your time studying for it. Better use that valuable time studying for another subject test or writing essays.

Retake it. An 800 is something like the 90th percentile, so with a 790, you're under 90%. I don't see why they do the test like that, it should be like the SAT where -1=790 , -2=760, -3=740 -4=720 -5=700.

I still don't think 10 pts would have that much of an impact. The only impact I can foresee is feeling bad when all your friends get 800.

I would retake it. I got a 780 my first time. I retook it even though everyone told me not to and then I got an 800. Im actually really happy that I did.

I think it would actually work in your disadvantage if you took it again.
Adcoms will think you're kind of obsessive, which could very well mean a reject.
And plus, you'd better spend your time on taking another Subject Test,
since colleges (Harvard announced it recently) stated that they'll start to put more emphasis on the SATII (eventually possibly eliminating SATI), recommending even 5 SATs in the future. Whooh. Crooked sentences <3
