I’m pretty sure that the GPA they consider won’t include his senior grades because decisions will be made before he gets them. Like I said before, he still has a good chance of acceptance, but it’s still important to find some less selective schools to apply to.

I did a quick search on the numbers and I think your son would have a good shot at Portland State, Oregon Institute of Technology, Arizona State, Northern Arizona, University of Arizona, University of Hawai’i and University of Montana. These schools should also be fairly affordable if he qualifies for WUE. There are plenty of other schools that he would probably also qualify for that you can find on their site (http://wue.wiche.edu/).

Well it doesn’t look good for the military now, lol. It sounded good for this person, but of course there are other options. U Oregon is prob. his best choice besides a CC. Also, he has to have a certain number of credits above a C plus. Does he? I think U Oregon is the best money wise, it looks like you live instate. But if he wants a better school then Oregon, he should go to CC first and transfer as a junior.

The application process for Fall 2010 doesn’t start until February 2010, so he can use his first semester grades to show improvement.

He has very, very few grades below a B, it is those four classes (3Fs/D) that have killed him.

Unfortunately the English classes he’s making up this summer are only good for credit recovery (for graduation), not grade replacement.

“The application process for Fall 2010 doesn’t start until February 2010”
HUH?? If he is applying to colleges then his applications have to be FINISHED and submitted, in most cases by Jan 1, NOT STARTED in Feb of 2010. He needs to ask for his teacher recommendations before his 1st semester grades are out. His HS can send his 1st semester grades at the end of the semester, but waiting until then to ask for teacher recommendations and submitting his applications is asking for trouble.

He doesn’t need teacher recommendations for Oregon.

Oops, I was looking at transfer deadlines. Freshman deadline is mid-January, and he will have his 1st semester grades by late December.

Oregon is rolling admissions so you it’s generally best to apply as early as possible or else things like financial aid and scholarships can run out. Maybe you could call the admissions office and ask if they recommend waiting for the first semester senior grades or if you should just apply ASAP.
