hey, i was just hoping that someone would be able to offer me some advice.

i have decent grades and test scores (5.0 w/4.0 uw, 2180 sat), but i have absolutely HORRIBLE ap scores (4 ush, 4 eng lang, 3 music theory, 2 comp sci and 2 french). my school is somewhat notorious for its bad instruction in the last three subjects, but i obviously screwed up big time and i should've been able to at least get 4s and 3s.

my questions are: should i report these scores, and if so, should i report all of them or just the passing ones? also, has doing poorly on these tests ruined my chances for schools like harvey mudd, berkeley, brown...or is not THAT important in the admissions process?

if i retake them, can i put "pending" or something as a score or should i just not bother with that?

thanks, and sorry for the rambling...as admission time approaches i'm getting more and more nervous...

First of all, 4s and 3s aren't "HORRIBLE".

Secondly, AP scores do not matter in admission, they only matter after you've been admitted. You don't have to write down the ones you don't want to on your application.

You are only required to send AP scores after admission and matriculation for placement/credit purposes.

thanks...that's kind of what i figured, but i realized that since there are so many applicants with similar test scores/grades, i thought that ap scores would be used as a kind of tie-breaker or something. it sucks because i know next year my tests will go a lot better (my four hardest ap tests were all junior year) and i wouldn't be so afraid to show them.

so...i guess i'll just report the passing scores and retake the failed tests (comp sci i know i can do well in; french might need a little work) if i have to. thanks again.

do not report anything less than a 4 in math/science subjects to hmc. your ush, eng lang, and music theory are okay to report though.

if you really think that the tests do not reflect your ability make it a point to say that you were disappointed in your performance and that it was a learning experience.

good luck!

thanks rocket.

yeah i think i'll be better off with next years aps (calc, stats, physics) because they're more up my alley anyway, i'm just bitter that i didn't study hard for the subjects i didn't like as much, did poorly, and now im paying for it. of course my sat math/science scores aren't spectacular either (760 sat I, 790 mathII, 770 chem), but i do think that i show a definite inclination towards math/science (besides our joke comp sci class -_-) and i hope harvey mudd can see that i am not a complete imbecile.

thanks again...and maybe i'll visit the hmc forum in a little while to see what everyone thinks of the college, and hopefully they won't laugh too much at my academic incompetence. ^_^
