My timed write skills are not great, to say the least. I got a 36 ACT, but I got a 7 (yes, really, not a typo) on the essay. If I send the ACT to colleges, the 36 looks awesome, but will the low essay score kill it?
I also scored 2330 on the SAT with 730 writing and an 8 essay. Should I send it at all? A 2330 is lower than a 36, but the 8 on the essay is at least a little more respectable, right?
I really don’t want to retake either of the tests, but the essay scores just look sketchy.
Do a good job on your application essay and don’t worry about it.
And I would probably send both scores.
Ignore them? They only measure your ability to regurgitate as much as possible onto a page in 25 minutes. No serious (or good) writing is ever done in that short of a time.
Most colleges only care about critical reading and the math portion of the SAT. The ACT scores are better, so submit it if you will, but I don’t think an 8 essay is unacceptable, especially if you’re trying to pursue a non-English career. Just make sure your personal statement is BOMB then you’ll be good
