what to do with MEDIOCRITY... ! i'm sure many are in the SAME situation.

Alright,
here is the profile of an average-ish. student.. who like many others, dreams of attending colleges like JHU, Duke, WUSL..so on and so forth. And I will NOT be convinced to forget these colleges. :D

A rising junior in a considerably competitive high school,
my GPA has been showing an upward trend and will proceed to be this way ( as of now, it's a 96ish..yes, very average..).

I'll be taking an accumulation of 8 APs through the 4 years...the usual..
I will have 4s, 5s, in my aps. Maybe a three.

I have okayish extracurriculars.. y' know...the usual.. a varsity sport, debate+ speech, tutoring,...so on so forth which i've pursued for 4 years, some three. I will hold leadership positions in a few of them...

Outside of school, I have other things such as chinese school and research, hospital volunteer...that are nonetheless decent..but still not impressive/EXTRAORDINARY likewoah.

My SAT will most likely be 2200 + ish.
My SAT II's will be 740+ ish.

******IN SHORT, I'm a pretttty... darned... mediocre student!
Seemingly, nothing stands out. Nothing shines. What's more...hah...
i'm a-s-i-a-n. Oh Jesus. Gotta love THIS one.

Here's my QUESTION:
IS there anything.... ANY THING that I may do to redeem myself? I understand that it's late for really..any other extracurriculars...'cause I don't want to make myself appear superficial.

Even if I pursue my extracurriculars and do well in them- say, be ranked first in state for my speech category.. do 200+ hrs of volunteer work..do something nice with research...I still WONT stand out as an applicant for any of the colleges listed above.

How about...if I get an INCREDIBLE 2400 on my SAT, raise my GPA to SHOCKING 98-99 ish... or do something with the like in ACADEMICS...
will this raise my chances...at all?

Please help me...or US.

and btw, I will keep bumping and bumping until bumping wears off.

even the most average of people are given a chance to stand out on the application... it's called the ESSAY. just make yours really original and different, and you're set! :)

Really, the EC that will do you the most good is your sport. If there's a chance you can be recruited, you certainly have good enough scores. I'd focus on that if there's any hope.

You have no idea what mediocrity really is. The AVERAGE high school student is one that gets a C/low B average, ranks in the 50th percent of their public school class, and gets SAT scores that are in the 50th percentile. They dream of attending their local state school. I'm sick of over-achievers who whine about 2200's and 740 SAT II's and beg for their chances to the top schools. Once you aim for the top schools, nothing short of the Nobel prize will guarantee you admission. Higher scores and demonstrated passion for EC's help, but no one except the adcoms can really say with certainty what your chances are.

What the hell? Forever also beat me to what I was going to say, but you don't even have any stats. It's even worse for you to not have any stats to even ask for your chances. I mean I know you're so MEDIOCRE, but don't mediocre stuidents have stats?

What are my chances at Harvard?
I have 1400-2400 SAT (expected)
500-800 SAT IIs (expected)
2.0-4.0 GPA by end of junior year (expected)

You are definitely not average!!! Cheer up ^_^!! I think you definitely have a good chance at any top school if you make your essays killer amazing and unique!

I don't know about your stats, but you can definitely improve your personality and attitude.

Are you trying to insult people with 2200s and 96 GPAs (ironically my exact stats) by saying that they're mediocre?!?!?

I'm pretty sure I looked at my score report and saw a percentile above 90% and I was pretty proud of myself. So what do you consider NOT mediocre?

bill, a 2200 is most likely right on 99th percentile. not insulting you or anything... :)

PS I have a 2220 and a 3.72 (93) GPA...being mediocre isn't so bad Bill. :)

you're a lot better than mediocre, but you're on the low end of the spectrum when it comes to Ivies.

I suggest you apply to a few, but start looking at matches and safeties as well.

I can't believe how uncivilized some ccers are..

" improve your personality and attitude"

..give me a break, dru. you ought to improve yours by not posting in threads where you have nothing nice to say. same with PANIC...who i've DEFINITELY seen yelling off at another thread...not nice, okay?

but I think I left a really important thing out when I started this thread.
Assuming that ccers here are crazyyyyyy smart, I consider myself mediocre compared to THEM.

otherwise, I really appreciate everyone's replies.

You might get in. Then again you might not.

oh pleaseeee, i know you're just fishing for compliments. anyway, now that i think about it, yes you are mediocre if you are applying to the "top" b/c nothing makes yu stand out.

Until you have some real scores (among other things) don't ask for chances. How can you expect us to analyze your chances accurately when you haven't even taken the SAT's?

People need to chill out on cc!! Adcoms aren't only looking for high SATs and numbers; if your personality stinks...they aren't going to want you.

Didn't you post your vague stats (or predicted scores) because you wanted people's opinions, whether or not they are good? If you want to be showered with compliments and block out criticism, why bother posting a thread like this?

You're not competing with just these crazy ccers, nor are they the average applicants at the colleges you are looking into. I'm sorry if you feel mediocre after scanning through the forums. I suggest that you follow through with everything you stated up there.

what a gay ass thread

hahahahaha

My post got deleted.
I meant what I said, though.
Posting threads where you pretend to be modest and asking about your chances without any real stats waste time. So please don't do it.

I don't think MEDIOCRITY is the correct term for your situation. Your stats are fine, you just don't have a hook. I'm in the same position.

well, more than that. you don't have any EC's. that's a problem. i would say start volunteering like crazy, make a bizillion clubs, that kinda of stuff.

don't worry, you just might end up in a CC.
