What to do with stuff during Summer?

So, like most new freshman, I'm sure we're all bringing a lot of stuff to Duke (especially if you're driving down). However, what do you guys (already completed a year) do with your stuff during the summer?

I don't think it'd be reasonable to take it all home, especially if you plan on flying home for the summer. Is there some kind of storage option?

Just asking cause then I might eventually buy a fridge instead of renting one.

CollegeBoxes does summer storage; that's what I used. Also, you might luck out and become friends with someone who lives somewhat close to Duke, and that someone might be willing to keep some of your stuff at his/her house (that's also what I did for some of my stuff :) hehe). Finally, I definitely can't say this with certainty since I don't know for sure (I'm a girl), but I think I remember hearing that if you're in a frat, they might have some sort of free storage space available for the brothers? That may not be true, though.

And definitely buy a fridge - it's much cheaper in the long run than renting one. MUCH.

college boxes is more expensive unless you have only one box. A far cheaper option is to find a group of people to store with over the summer and rent a storage space. Some places have trunk rentals even.

Ahh, really? Thanks Amused -- you actually helped ME out for next summer, because I really didn't know of any other options than College Boxes...haha. Oh well.

there are plenty of storage facitilies around the area (especially since there are many large schools) so if you book in advance you should not have a problem finding summer storage.

Yep - storage facilities are by far the best option, in my opinion. For 60 dollars a person, myself at 3 other people split a storage space that had more than enough room for everything we had (i personally took two suv loads of boxes/bike/small plastic set of drawers, etc). Also, for stuff you want at home for the summer, look at shipping an extra box or duffel via fedex (the fedex-kinkos by east is open 24 hours and perfect for last minute, 2 am shipping).

for me, a storage facility was the experience from hell, and while i suggested doing one this year to save money, my parents told me to do college boxes.
honestly, college boxes will cost me an arm and a leg, but after last year's storage facility fiasco, it's an expense i'll take. (plus they'll carry my stuff to my room) but yeah storage facilities are the cheapest option, but not always the easiest or best.

bluestar, which one did you use/what was the problem?
