So I've been taking college classes at county college as a senior in hs and I will have 12 credits by may. Also if I pass my AP test I can get 3 more. I am considering taking 6 more credits this summer cause they're offering classes I'm really interested in. And then I saw the packet the the udel summer sesh.. looks awesome. So I figure there's no problem taking all these classes (they're not on the same dates so it works out) and then I realize I have the potential to graduate early. I don't know if i want to cause I know I will love school and I wouldn't want to leave all of the friends I will make. But at the same time it will save a ridiculous amount of money because I'm paying pretty much all in loans. I'm also thinking about grad school but idk if I want to do it at del. But overall I'm just trying to see if you CCrs think missing out on a senior year will be worth it to save money and get experiences now?
Thanks and sorry this was long!

My D went in with I believe 25 credits. However, that doesn’t automatically mean you can graduate early. It depends on if those credits will go towards your major or how they work out with core requirements. It also depends on if you go in undecided (like my daughter did)you proabably end up taking course that won’t end up “counting” towards anything. Because of all this she has an overabundance of credits (will probably graduate with about 150 credits) but will actually barely be able to squeak out graduating on time because of the requirements of the credits in her MAJOR (some majors have a heavier amount of credits needed within the major, like accounting). Also, in response to the missing out on senior year etc., I can tell you right now my daughter would DIE if I tried to make her graduate early. She loves it and is dreading leaving college!

Thanks! I was originally undecided but I think I have it figured out now… so I’ll be able to take some requirements (unless I decide to change) but I can definitely understand where your daughter is coming from about not wanting to graduate early. My dad wants me to save money by doing all of this but I can’t imagine how much I would be missing out on. I think I might still take the classes before I go and maybe take less classes while I’m there. Do you know if you pay by credit at udel or do you pay a given about of money to take 12-18 credits? Thank you again for the help

My D came in with 28 credits that either apply to the major or core requirements. She is technically a year ahead of herself. She will stay all four years and take several minors that interest her. There are a lot of options at UD and if you have those credits under your belt, you can take advantage of all of them. You could study abroad wherever you choose, or even take a semester to do an internship. You could learn something that you wouldn’t be able to fit in if you didn’t have the credits. And it’s entirely possible that you might want to graduate early when the time comes. But the bottom line is that those credits give you all the flexibility in the world.

Wow… this is so exciting hahah so pretty much the credits can’t be a bad thing (only money wise- my dad is trying to pressure me to graduate early) which I absolutely do not want to do. Taking an extra minor seems like a great idea! I haven’t thought about that… I will definitely take it into consideration. Than you for the help

You do not pay by the credit you pay by the semester. Anything over 17 credits though you have to pay extra (by the credit). So you can take up to 17 credits for the semester price. Note that summer and winter sessions are extra (pay by the credit).

Ohh alright… so say my senior year I only need to take 6 credits to graduate. Would I still pay the same as 12-17 credits?
