What to do?..

Okay so it barley occurred to me that even though I plan on transferring to a four year college, specifically CSULB or Cal Poly SLO from a CC, I wouldn't be able to pay off the tuition and other expenses. I come from a low income family and possibly the first generation to go to college and transfer to a university, if I figure out what to do of course. My EFC is 0 which makes me eligible for a $5550 grant if I'm not mistaken, but that's not nearly enough to pay for everything. My mom can't really help and we been on a budget problem since my dad has passed. Any suggestion?..

You need to head straight down to the Financial Aid office at your CCC, and talk with them about what will happen when it comes time for you to transfer. They will be able to explain to you how the various Cal Grants work, as well as how different kinds of Federal Financial Aid works. If you have excellent grades, the Transfer Counselor at your CCC may be able to suggest places that will offer you merit-based scholarships as well.
