what to do?

so i am a freshman and i got a 5 on the bc ap exam. i am currenty taking math 53 and i am doing miserably so far. i now realize that i am way ver my head. i thought because i got a 5 i was prepared for math 53. people are coming with formulas I've never heard of. i want to go to haas or take the math intensive econ route but now i am thinking about going the less math econ route and still apply to haas and take math16b. should i stay in math 53 and work my ass off and still not guaranteed that i will pass or take 16b and have a better chance at an A? will haas look down on me for going the easy way out with 16b or is that a common route?

I’m not sure but

 1. I’m also taking Econ
 2. I’m not sure which math to take, either
 3. I’ve never taken Calc in my life before
 4. I’m in Math 1A
 5. The quiz today took a giant ***** on my face and it thought that was funny

for anybody that is in haas: what math courses did you take?

you’re asking the wrong batch.
your class is the first one that has to take 2 semesters of math as a prereq, we only had to choose 1 out of 16a, 16b, 1a, or 1b.
but to make things fair, we also had to do the “haas writing requirement” which was a stupid class of our choosing + we had to have all 7 breadth reqs done.

to be honest it sounds like your batch’s class reqs rock, 53 and 54 counting for your application is way nice. would’ve saved me a little time fitting in extra classes, that’s for sure.

that being said, haas doesn’t “look down” on 16-series-ers

hell, most of the haas kids i know either cry or wet their pants when they see math beyond algebra. (in my 104 class today someone had a deep sigh of grief when i told him we had to just rearrange variables – all basic arithmetic and algebra, yet he proceeded to pull out a calculator AND STILL came up with the wrong numbers… pathetic, really)

THAT being said, getting into haas isn’t guaranteed, so the natural thing to do is take the course YOU want to pursue whether you get into haas or not.

If you’re interested in the “mathy” econ classes, the 1 series is a prerequisite and the 16 series just won’t cut it.

Either way, just think about all these things before you make a decision you would later regret because it closed doors that you wanted to keep open…

crowslayer why do u post so much on these forums. wanna hang out with me instead? i live in a frat house, fiji, if u come visit i will let you in.
