I’m at brocku and currently on probation. My grades are bad. I don’t think I’ll meet the minimum average requirement. I’ll probably be suspended. Also, I’m an international student and my parents won’t be very pleased if I spend a year doing nothing. I was in the psyc program but I don’t enjoy it so that’s one of the reasons I’m failing. Can anyone adivse me on what to do? I’m interested in political science or international relations. Would it be wise for me to apply to another school? Thanks
Well the answer for “what to do?” right now is pretty obvious. Do whatever it takes to avoid getting booted out. Study you ass off for the exams this month and get the gpa you need. Preempt this issue now and set up an appointment with a guidance councilor to discuss your situation. If you don’t like psych and you want to transfer that’s fine, but you cant transfer if you are kicked out of university. So whether you enjoy studying psychology or not grit your teeth and study hard the next couple weeks so that you will pass your upcoming exams and keep your seat. Then talk to guidance about transferring over to political science or International relations.
Also, you might want to double check the status on your student visa; if you are not enrolled at a Canadian University you may not be allowed to stay in Canada for a full year after, if you haven’t completed your degree (I recall their being some ways for new graduates to extend their visa but this is not your case). Anyway I don’t really know for certain one way or another but you should look up how losing your student status would affect your visa status.
