What to do?

This thread is probably more suitable for the post-highschool discussion, but I think I would find better opinions by posting it here. Anyways I am a senior in highschool and I'm thinking a lot about what I am going to do once I graduate. I do pretty well in school so I shouldn't have problems getting into a college. The thing is, as soon as I graduate high school I want to move out of my parents house, yet I still want to go to college after summer. Is it possible to get an apartment just for the summer? Do people do this? I don't know if I'll have enough money by the time I go to college, or if my parents will still want to help me pay for it. I just don't want to live here after I'm done school, under my parents rules and stuff. It will be the last summer I get to spend time with the friends I grew up with. I'd like to here what other people have done and get some ideas of the things I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know of anyone who moved out of the parent's home the summer after HS graduation & before beginning college in the fall. Me & most of the kids I knew were trying to save all we could to help defray college costs, working over the summer & trying to economize. Most of us were able to live with our parents' rules OK & recognized that our lives would be very different once we started college. I do know of one friend who rented a beach house with some friends for a week or so over the summer & they had a great time. I'd guess that most of your friends will also be living with their folks anyway & don't really understand your point very well.

I suppose if you REALLY are adverse to living at home, you could get a job say as a camp counselor where you're provided with lodging as part of your "salary." There are also some very competitive summer research opportunties you could try applying for that allow you to do research & have room & board. You could also try housesitting (if anyone wants you to housesit), but that involves some duties & responsibilities as well. Those are all I can think of off the top of my head.
