Hi--My daughter was waitlisted at one of her top choice schools and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with accepting at a school after getting off the waitlist. We won't hear back whether she is in or not until mid-May and I was just worried that people who enroll late are at a disadvantage as far as dorm preferences, registering for classes (getting closed out), book ordering, etc. I know that she will have already missed admitted students day, and I'm sure other things (judging by the amount of material we are receiving for the school that my daughter did enroll at). Did it make any difference at all as an entering Freshman?? If anyone can tell me his/her experience after attending a school that they originally were waitlisted for, I would appreciate hearing from you! Thanks!

As far as registering for classes and housing, I don’t think it makes much of a difference if you get called off the waitlist in May or even early June. Delaworld (orientation and registration) runs from late June through July so as long as you don’t miss that, you are in the same position as everyone else. Housing assignments are sent in August, and I think for freshman, it’s pretty random. Freshman can’t request specific dorms or room types, unless you want to live in one of the specialty housing environments (international, honors, etc) which may have some of their own requirements.

As someone who got into UD from the waiting list and enrolled I can tell you that I was treated no differently than anyone else. I was still placed into the newest freshmen dorm (though luck) and was not treated any differently for course registration.

You’re concerned abut book ordering at this point???
