There are a lot of people I want to give something to show appreciation for their help in applying to college (including guidance counselor and recommendation writers). What do people normally give?

I'm thinking maybe small box of chocolates by a gourmet chocolatier in NYC or bag of assorted cookies. I don't want to spend too much because that might seem too quid pro quo and there's too many people.

The year before last I gave my female teachers chocolate roses and my male teachers hot chocolate in a mug. It wuz cute and they all appreciated it. Last year I gave my teachers chocolate, thank you notes, and a big hug! :)

I would give them nothing be cause it is their jobs and their rewards are the pleasure and satisfaction of helping you.

But if you really want to give them something, at my school, some of the clubs are selling candy grams and they are only things to buy to show appreciation. So, I would buy them.

On second thought, I’m going to try to steal this thread.

Does anyone have ideas for what I can get my girlfriend for Christmas?

My idea was this, and I thought of this all by myself: Take her for a horse and buggy ride downtown (we live in a town with a historic downtown that’s always super decorated around Christmas) and dinner at a restaurant. I would probably get her a necklace or something, and there’s a gag gift I want to give her too.

The problem with that is, she asked me this week if I knew what I was getting her. I said no (stupid idea, it’s not like I would have had to tell her what it was) but that I would ask her best friend (which she told me to do the week before). She then got offended. The same best friend mentioned a couple weeks ago that she was going on a horse and buggy ride with her boyfriend, so even though I thought of it myself, it will look like I asked her.

LHS11 – Don’t worry about it… was your girlfriend upset about you asking her best friend what to get her or offended about you not having her gift yet? If she’s only upset about you not having her present yet then I’m sure you’re fine with the horse & buggy ride downtown (that sounds so cute!).
