My D has picked her audition songs, however, it appears that if the adjudicators want to hear something else, they will ask for something from her song book. Obviously we will pare down her book to those songs she knows and sings very well, but if she is asked to sing one of these other songs, can she use the sheet music for the lyrics? Some of these songs are from a year or two ago, and with nerves and such, she might forget some of the lyrics.

What did those of you from previous years do?

I have never heard of someone using lyrics. I really don’t think you can. You just need to work on them and not freak yourself out about them.I used songs from shows I had done a lot, and I was only asked to see my book twice and they picked another song. For instance, I used Alone in the Universe cause I played Horton several times. I think I had about 5-6 songs including my main ones in my book. Also, be aware BW wants you to have 3 selections prepared and I think most schools want two (at least the ones I auditioned for), so there is an automatic one more piece.

The two times I had to use my additional songs they did not look through my book they instead asked if I had a song that showcased this or that. For instance, one school asked if I had any quieter songs and so I sang Alone in the Universe.

It would not be a good idea to hold lyrics while singing additional material. Only include things in your rep book that you can sing from memory.

In terms of what to include in the book… it is likely that your D will have to have more than two songs prepared since each schools requirements are different. So, additional material can be material she prepared for other schools. It is a good idea to have additional material in your rep book that contrasts in terms of style, time period, range, subject matter, and tempo. If a school asks to hear something else it is generally because they are interested and want to hear/ see more of what you can do.
