Sooo, I'm a college freshman thinking about studying abroad, and ... there's soooo many programs. I'm not sure which country to pick.

I cannot speak another language fluently, so I would have to go somewhere where they speak english. I hate cold weather, so it seems like Europe is out of the question. However, I'm on the fence about that since I feel like Europe would be a lot of fun. I am looking at places like Australia and New Zealand since they probably have great weather. I am thinking about studying abroad this summer (summer after freshman year) because I probably won't get an internship for this summer. Any suggestions on where to go? What should I look for in a study abroad program? If you have studied abroad, where was that and what was it like?

New Zealand so DOES NOT have great weather! It is quite similar to the UK. And if you go in the US summer, it will be the middle of winter in NZ. That means lots of rain and quite possibly snow, depending on where you go. It will also be winter in Australia at that time, but there are parts which are always hot, like Queensland. I lived in Melbourne and that has cool and sometimes rainy winters.

Why do you think you have to study in an English speaking country? You would take language courses regardless, for the majority of programs you don’t need any prior instruction or fluency.

Studying abroad isn’t cheap. You may need to make some extra cash if you want to support yourself in South Korea/France. In my opinion, you should go to South Korea. Definitely. My parents are from there and I love the culture, the nature, the history, the food, the clothes, and the people. Everything there is wonderful! :)

I went to New Zealand, and it was straight up AWESOME!! However, you should consider the fact that if you want to go in the (US) summer, that means it’s winter in New Zealand and Australia because they’re in the Southern Hemisphere. I lived in Auckland though, and when I left at the beginning of July (beginning of their winter), it was like 60 degrees so it really never got too cold. It never snows in Auckland, either.

I’ve also lived in Korea for a year, and will say that summers there are REALLY REALLY hot and humid. Like annoyingly uncomfortable. Other seasons are great though :)

I’d recommend checking out the study abroad review website, Abroad101, since you can ask former study abroad students directly any questions you may have, and they have a HUGE database of reviews from students who went anywhere and everywhere in the world!

Hi, I couldn’t find any Asian countries in your choice of places but I would strongly recommend you to go to a Business school in Asia like Singapore or Dubai. Can’t assure you about the good climate but i am sure you would love the campus life and the experience you gain out of the program.

Moreover, many Asian countries are close to Europe and US in terms of educational and business standards.

Here are a few schools you might want to try for if you plan to study in Singapore:

S P Jain Center of Management
INSEAD
NUS (National University of Singapore)
Nanyang Business School
