What to look for when sending supplemental writing?

I'm in a bit of a pickle. I'm about to send off my supplemental package to Reed, and it requires that I enclose a copy of a piece of graded writing (such as an essay), complete with instructor's remarks. I was wondering what kind of essay I should send... should I send one I got a good grade on, but with few comments from my teacher, or one that got a lesser grade from my teacher, but with many constructive comments? It seems like most people would do the former (which, at this point I am doing-- I've got a copy sitting in the envelope I'm going to send already), but I was thinking the latter would allow the adcom to see how much I've grown in writing since then. I honestly do not know what to do at this point, so your input would be greatly appreciated!

send your best essay...they'll know that you probably have lesser work, but at the same time, if you send your lesser essay, they won't know if you've improved or not...especially if you have anything less than an A in the class, send the best essay

I sent the piece of writing that I liked the most. I might have only gotten an 83% on it, but it was a research paper on a book I really loved (Cold Mountain). Plus my teacher offered me some great comments, both good and bad. Since it was from about a year ago, I think it's a bit safe to assume that the adcom will realize that I've improved.
